Molly Ivins -- Right, as usual

Molly Ivins: "The president of the United States does not have the sense God gave a duck -- so it's up to us. You and me, Bubba."

Although she mentions the need for Congress to act, she unfortunately does not make it clear what Bubba, you, and/or I can do to change the situation. But it must change. This cannot go on.

Anybody got any ideas about what we can do?

Two comments:

1. Quack.

2. What we can do, indeed what we must do, is to entreat our elected representatives in Washington to rein in the excesses of the Bush administration beginning now, if not sooner.

I'm behind on updating Writing Congress - everything you need in one place for the new Congress (though the last one took until March to finish Committee assignments), but it should be pretty current for last term's members, which is the great majority.

We could all wear T-Shirts saying, "I'm NOT with Stupid" (optional arrow pointing to shrub.)

Write to your local politicians as your mood takes you there. Since we're all writers, it just takes a slightly different focus. Someone on staff actually reads the letters I've sent (Feingold, Baldwin, Kohl, all democrats) and I've gotten 100% content-related responses, if not personal. So, write, write, write! Also, writing letters sets you up well for personal visits to the (state)capitol, where any concerned politico will see a constituent, especially if an appointment is made in advance and they have a letter to review about your concerns.

Oh, and you have to start somewhere, so please no responses saying how useless writing and speaking to our elected officials is-la la la I can't hear you ;-).

oh sure, I've got some ideas, but...
None that I'm willing to write down or admit in public, because most of them would probably land me in Git-Mo, never to be seen again. >_
