Quiet night at work

It's a very quiet night here at work. I guess most of our clients aren't thinking about SEC filings or other financial publications right now—it was extremely quiet last night. Nevertheless, a few people have to be here … you know … Just In Case … however unlikely that "case" may be.

I'm not complaining, you understand; I've always figured it's a mitzvah to work on Christmas eve and day since it gives the people for whom it means something a chance to take off work and be with family and stuff.

There are some things I've been meaning to write up for LJ. If I can find the focus to do that the night should go fairly well; otherwise it could get a bit … long.

Thanks. Sorry, I don't do Minn-stf any more. Funny that way I guess.

Yeah, that's one thing that chezsterno would do, too, either going in or being on call. Usually it was pretty quiet, but in an OR if you need to work, it's a good thing you're there.

It took me three times to parse "in an OR if" as I kept trying to work in how the "or" fit; the rest of the sentence filled in the context I was missing. This set of mental gymnastics amused me and so I thought I'd share. (That is, I don't intend to criticize but thought you and/or Fred would be amused along with me.)

And indeed I was amused. (Now that you mention it, I think I may have had a similar error message from my parser for a few moments but didn't think to say. Thanks for reminding.)

I remember those nights. Hope yours was as short as necessary.

Used to be in Minneapolis in the '80s there was a temp agency called Just in Case -- your post reminded me of it, obviously. Unfortunately, my opinion of the temp agencies there ranged from awful to hideous.
