I guess I should have expected it....

Insert in AOL "1099 Hours Free!" package:
We don't need no stinkin' spelling!
Um, guys? Want to try it again?

Thanks! I'm lucky to have some gifted artists as friends. (While we're on the subject, I rather like your icon as well. You appear to glow and sparkle...)

Yup. And McDonald's is currently running a TV ad where the contraction for until starts with a single open quote rather than an apostrophe. Against a black screen with just 5-6 words as the visual, so it's really big and glaring. I cringe every time I see it.

Did you ever see Dave Barry's "How To Create Sign's For Small Business" (or something like that)? Classic rant on apostrophes, etc. If not, I'll see if I can find it. Of course, everyone makes typos, but that one is so common, you'd think people would be especially careful about it.

Did you ever see Dave Barry's…

No, but I do own in hardcover and have read Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne Truss, which is also a classic rant on apostrophes, etc. One fine thing she does is suggest the term "Greengrocer's Apostrophe" for possessive bananas and the like.

Hmm, and now I can't find it, Google notwithstanding. Harrumph. I think I have a file copy at home. I think I heard about "Eats, Shoots & Leaves" on NPR a few months ago. Made me want to run out and buy a copy, tho I never did. I'll be keeping an eye out for it next time I hit the bookstore.

That's AOL's subtle way of preparing you for its general quality level.

Subtle? Yeah, I guess for AOL that's subtle... ;)

Heh. Have you seen Bob the Angry Flower's take on apostrophes? I laughed so hard I bought the t-shirt.
