Yit-ga-dal ve'yit-ka-dash sh'mei ra-ba

My father, may his memory be a blessing, would have been 91 years old had he made it to his birthday on the 21st of this month. He died last night at 1:30 am.

Holy One of Blessing, Your Presence fills creation, You are indeed the Judge.

He had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for several years now and had been in a nursing home for the last three or four years. His health took a marked turn for the worse a couple of weeks ago and his death was not unexpected.

Exalted and hallowed be God's greatness
In this world of Your creation.
May Your will be fulfilled
And Your sovereignty revealed
And the life of the whole house of Israel
Speedily and soon.
And say, Amen.

May You be blessed forever,
Even to all eternity.
May You, most Holy One, be blessed,
Praised and honored, extolled and glorified,
Adored and exalted above all else.

Blessed are You.
Beyond all blessings and hymns, praises and consolations
That may be uttered in this world,
In the days of our lifetime,
And say, Amen.

May peace abundant descend from heaven
With life for us and for all Israel,
And say, Amen.

May God, Who makes peace on high,
Bring peace to all and to all Israel,
And say, Amen.

The passing of someone who has had Alzheimer's can be difficult in more than the usual ways. (J.'s father had it.) Our sympathies for the pain and our hopes for good memories.

I plainly remember meeting your father about 37 years ago; he gave me a ride home from your place on Zarthan Avenue to Macalester. I liked him and envied you a relationship that seemed at the *very* least better than mine with my dad (although what do outsiders really know about such things?) At least he had 90 years -- a good long time. Hang in there, and we're all thinking of the three of you.

Much sympathy for your loss. Even when it is not unexpected it is still a large hole that cannot be filled in. The B.H. is thinking of you, Susan and Gavey.

Hugs to you and Susan and Gavi. Bill's dad had Alzheimer's the last three years of his life. I know how it is hard. Every day you are with them you are trying to let go and hold on at the same time, and then when they are finally gone you have to let go all over again. My heart goes out to you, dear one.

Sympathies. May you, Susan, Gavi, and Ellamae go gently through the days and weeks to come.

I look forward to being there Monday night and only wish it were going to be 12-24 hours sooner.
