Fourth Guy Fawkes Day Photo

I reckon there's nothing really extraordinary about fireworks photos—they don't take any great skill, just a good camera and a tripod. But I think this one is kinda pretty, so I offer it to you. Enjoy!

Good fireworks photos also take a well-timed finger on the shutter. I especially like how this one looks so much like a luminescent dandelion.

Okay, okay. Tripping the shutter at more-or-less the right time is somewhat important. But it's all dark out, so it's far less critical than in, say, Cartier-Bresson's work. Luck (and a wanton recklessness with film) has at least as much to do with getting good fireworks photos as skill, knowledge, or art. Oh. Hm. That and editing to throw out the fizzlers before showing the images. Other than that, well, the camera figures out exactly when to close the shutter and the tripod holds it steady while all this is going on…

All that being said, I like it too and am in no way embarrassed to have taken it. I especially like the small wayward *paff*s to the left and right.
