Fun with Photoshop

Yes, I believe that the plain version of this image is perfectly wonderful, but I just couldn't resist trying some different things with it in Photoshop. And, in addition to what I've read and seen about Wassily Kandinsky, I've been reading a wonderful book about Alfons Mucha as well, which may have provided at least some of the inspiration for this first alternate version:

Then there's this one, which may have been similarly inspired:

And, finally, this one. I'm not sure whence the inspiration for it comes…

Very cool. I like them all but the third really appeals to me.

Hmm. Interesting. My own favorite is the first one and I feel rather uncertain about the third. It's therefore a relief that it's your favorite—that makes me feel better about my decision to include it.

(Also, see my comment to jbru below.)

The third is obviously blending your fine portraiture with your experiments with slow shutter speeds and camera motion. It lacks the rhythm of those experiments but the contrast of the subject's stillness and the background's motion is still striking.

Okay. Between you and haniaw, how can I not believe? Even though I wasn't at all certain to begin with. It does then make me a bit curious about what y'all think of this one, which I didn't include since portions of it have been seen before:

Yes, yes, yes! I was going to suggest you do something like this, but, you know, you're the artist. I'm just a humble, well, not-the-artist. This has rhythm, motion, color, contrast and ... and ... it's just full of win.

You're always free to suggest. Nay, you're always invited to suggest. You are indeed not-the-artist, but you're a very perceptive and interesting not-the-artist. Is-the-artist is always free to decide not to follow your suggestion(s) but is, nevertheless, always interested in hearing them.

Both my fiancee and I really like the first one. Enough for a small discussion about it yesterday as we scrolled past while looking for something specific on LJ.

Very nice work.

Thank you, thank you! I was almost ready to despair of anyone ever liking my very favorite of the three. So I'm especially gratified that you and your fiancee really like it!

Your fiancee? I guess I'm out of touch. Congratulations!
