Fencing with sabre

So the up-side of being at home here in Minneapolis instead of at ConFusion there in Detroit (Troy) is that I was able to go to one of Gavi's fencing meets this morning. Better still, I therefore got to see her win the first medal which, as she says, wasn't a consolation medal or trophy. Whee! (As you can no doubt tell, the endorsement opportunities/offers from tap-water providers are just pouring in.)

I'll have more to say about my decision to head home on Friday instead of continuing on to the convention as soon as I can muster the awake time & energy to sit here at the computer and write it up…

Whoohoo! Snazzy medal, too.

And, hey! I recognize that water bottle. It's from Minuteman National Historic Park.

I'm glad you made the decision that was right for you regarding which direction to drive yesterday and look forward to hearing more about it ('cause, yes, I'm surprised).

Yup. That's where it's from all right. When I was getting ready to take her picture, Gavi grabbed it, saying, "I'll hold this bottle up for Geri." Whatever that meant. Means. Whatever.

Right decision? Yeah, we like it when we turn out to have made the right decision. Except for those occasions when we're looking for an excuse to kick ourselves around the room. But we're trying to swear of such occasions. Yeah.

She looks so lovely, cheerful and powerful! Hurrah for Gavi!

Yes, she does and she is. Thanks!

Your daughter is not only intelligent, kind, and accomplished, she's also cute! Congratulations to your whole family.

Thank you, kind sir!

Sabre *rocks*. Congratulations to Gavi.

And *rolls*. (Or is it ducks that do that? ANYway…) A weapon for all occasions, yes. Especially for *thwacking* people, I'm told.

Thanks!

Well, I guess that explains why I haven't seen you at any room parties here at Confusion.
Fred A Levy Haskell: Fredcritter eyes onlyfredcritter on January 25th, 2008 12:57 am (UTC)

Yuppers. Got it in one.

I'm especially glad that it hadn't been because I had been there but unable to leave my bed and room. That would have s— … um … been less than wonderful.

Gavi fences sabre? I always thought epee was the coolest, but I guess this may require me to spend some time in reconsideration.
Fred A Levy Haskell: Fredcritter eyes onlyfredcritter on January 25th, 2008 12:59 am (UTC)

Don't reconsider too hard. I can't say for sure whether epee is, in fact, coolest, but sabre definitely isn't—sabre is more, you know, warm. Or even hot.

Thanks! Me too! There are, after all, only so many "first times" in a lifetime.

She thanks you. I thank you. Etc.!

Wow... I haven't seen Gavi since Congenial '00. She's all grown up...
Fred A Levy Haskell: Fredcritter eyes onlyfredcritter on January 25th, 2008 01:03 am (UTC)

Yeah, it has been a while, hasn't it?

Funny how that "growing up" thing happens. It's a bit surprising, even when one's been following it along on a more-or-less day-by-day basis.

Emma Bull: Scorecoffeeem on January 20th, 2008 08:38 pm (UTC)
Woohoo! Congratulations, Gavi--that is intensely cool!
Fred A Levy Haskell: Fredcritter eyes onlyfredcritter on January 25th, 2008 01:05 am (UTC)

Gavi said, "Is that Emma?" I assured her it is. She smiled hugely.

"Woohoo!" indeed!

Go Gavi, go!

(To the tune of the chorus of "The Little Old Lady From Pasadena," no doubt.)

Thanks!
