A meme I couldn't resist

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now (even if we don't speak often), please post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me.

It can be anything you want - good or bad - BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE.

When you're finished, post these three paragraphs on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people DON'T ACTUALLY remember about you.

This is a tough one, but I'd have to go with the time ConGenial was in Las Vegas. I think it was May, 1994 (or 1995, I forget) and you and the Hungarian and SMac were jamming at that little lounge area in the Flamingo. The showgirls belly-dancing in their full headdresses (while topless, god bless Vegas!) was impressive enough, but that they were doing it to "Uncle John's Band" was doubly so.

What made it really stand out for me was when you set down your guitar and hat, borrowed one of the headdresses and joined them in the belly-dancing, dashiki and all. I know I have the phot ot of it somewhere, but damned if I can find it.

Oh, that's easy.
It was you who put that entry into some fan-history which is online somewhere which says I got tear-gassed in Grant Park during the Democratic Convention of 1968.
(I was in a barracks in Vallejo, awaiting discharge for general incorrigability, watching what I could on television. In fairness, I will always be grateful to the Navy for letting me spend my weekends of that summer in San Francisco and Berkeley, and ticked at the buddy who stalled us so long that by the time we got to Janis' last show with Big Brother, the line was already around the block twice.)

That time we were kidnapped by aliens and managed to escape: my high-pitched shriek exploded their heads and you remembered the complex route back to the escape hatch.

Ah, well that has to be the time we drove to that little convention in Wisconsin, the one awkwardly set way out in the countryside. When we got close to the hotel, we took what looked like a long and winding driveway to get up to it. Except the driveway got narrower and narrower, until it was apparent we were actually on a golf cart path! Luckily we were in your old Honda Civic, back before Civics got supersized, so we could fit on the path still, and eventually we were disgorged into the parking lot.

Must have been a boring convention though, since that approach is all I really remember about it.

Remember when you used to babysit for me? You wanted to hang with your friends, and I followed you around to see what you were doing ... Sometimes I watched you all, while I was pretending to read or do my homework.

You had that long hair and jeans and that was just fascinating to 8-year-old me. I kept wishing you'd write a song, just for me.

Dude! Remember when we crashed that gathering of amateur photographers in Juneau and stayed drunk the whole weekend on Moose brand beer? My recollection of the last night is a bit fuzzy, but one memory that stands out was you playing guitar while walking along the tables in the awards dinner while everyone who had brought a camera with them snapped away, preserving the moment for posterity. Fortunately, I had remembered to bring along my portable x-ray-powered remote film fogging zap gun, so none of the evidence could be developed.

Ahh Memories....
It has to be when you took me backstage at Radio City Music Hall during the Dead's acoustic run. It was great to hang out with the guys. You were so kind to Brent in assuring him that in time he would grow to fit in with the band. When during the second set, Jerry played the riff you had just taught him during the break, it made the night!
