An Old Question...

While commenting on polyfrog’s journal, I reminded myself of a conundrum I’ve been pondering off and on for years, so I repeat it here:

If the road to Hell is paved with good intentions, with what is the road to Heaven paved?

Interesting question and, as I had no idea what to answer, I googled on the question. My favorite answer of the first ten hits was:

"If the road to Hell is paved with good intentions, then the road to Heaven is paved with honest attempts"

This came from here, if you're curious.

It's a trick question. There is no road to heaven. To get to heaven, you have to take the subway.

Subway? Seems I once heard someone say somethin' about a stairway, but I never heard nothin' 'bout no subway....

"Good works" is what I thought of, but I like dlacey's find, "honest attempts".
