A thought about hard-drives and controller boards and ConFusion...

It occurs to me that if I were to blow off ConFusion this year (as so many others are apparently doing), it'd more than cover the cost of the drives and things to make our computer machine not just functional again but actually kinda cool. This would probably be a bad swap and I must think upon it more but it is a thought.

Or maybe I could still go to ConFusion but seriously cut down on expenses. Share a room with … I dunno &hellip somebody. Crash with friends in Chicago instead of getting a room there as I'd been planning. Hmmmm. Must think. Think, he thinks.

I am a bear of very little brain…

If you decide to come to Confusion after all, we have space in our room.

Thank you!
I'm leaning toward just saving the whole expense, but I will add your kind offer to the factors I'm balancing. Thanks ever so much.

Skip Confusion. Come to FKO or OVFF instead.

Are those filk conventions? I'm less than sure of how comfortable I'd be at a filk convention, nor of how happy/comfortable folks there would be with me and my brand of acoustic rock & roll taken from non-fannish, "real world" sources. Thanks for thinking of me, though. Tell me more?
Marybraider on January 9th, 2007 02:31 am (UTC)
People do do non-fannish stuff, mostly at the Dead Dog parties (at the end of the con). However, we're an incredibly welcoming bunch of folks. Much more of a supportive family than what I see at more general conventions. Also, the timing might make one of them easier on your finances than a con right now.

GAFilk just happened - in the next couple days, do a find on the word "GAFilk" on my friends pages. The convention reports might give you a fair idea of how things tend to go. A lot of the same people show up at every filk convention, with certain people more likely to be at cons in certain regions.

Someday, it would be nice if you were to come to a loscon.

Have been, but that was years ago and yes it would be nice to come again some time. What time of year is it these days?

Loscon is November...
During Thanksgiving week.

Steve and I had a blast at Loscon 2005. Lovely group of people. Firefly shindig... They were patient and hospitable and kind - marvelous about making changes - plus the surprise birthday cake during opening ceremonies! Loscon was the first con I worked with for Steve, and thus reminded me [during my stage fright] that fandom is full of friendly helpful people.

Just like my friends back in Michigan fandom. :D

Wish you luck in your decision, Fred. Expenses of travel versus computer needs -sadness- are never fun to have.

Well, The Boss feels it's just a momentary waystation toward Perfect Emptiness, but I do have the boxes of books in "the spare bedroom" under enough control that the futon couch-bed can be flattened to bed postion.
There's been a parking shortage here since the 1920s, but we're only a couple blocks from the L.

…a momentary waystation toward Perfect Emptiness….

Ah, those Heechee—ya never know where they're goin' … or why.

I very much appreciate the offer (& please convey my thanks, regrets, and regards to The Boss from me*), but events were apparently conspiring against me—I finally gave in and decided I'll have to miss this year's ConFusion and put off intermediate visits until a more propitious time suggests itself.

I knew there's a parking shortage in your neck of the woods—is it impossible or merely difficult? 'Cause if I'm visiting on account of passing through, I will (obviously?) need a place to park the car for the duration, even if we can avail ourselves of the L to get around locally whilst there.

* The Senior Boss of Here sends her regards and greetings to you both and a special belated birthday greeting to you singular.
